One Witch's Way

While the tarot is a fantastic tool that can help in many ways, far too often people have misconceptions about what tarot can do. In order to get the most of your session with any reader, it’s best to keep some simple tips in mind. With these ideas in mind you’ll gain more from your session and be more open to the insights and guidance that comes through in the reading. Over all you’ll have a much more enjoyable experience!
Some of the most basic things to keep in mind are:
- Tarot doesn’t tell you everything, you still need to make decisions for yourself
- Know that absolutely nothing is written in stone and you always have the free will to do what you wish
- Sometimes a reading may tell you something you aren’t ready to hear
- If you come to a session closed minded only wanting to hear certain things, you’re bound to be disappointed
- No reader is 100% right 100% of the time
These key points are vital. Let’s look at them a little more to get more understanding of each.
Tarot doesn’t tell you everything. Many people come for a tarot reading thinking that it is the same as a reading with a clairvoyant psychic. It isn’t; while some tarot readers may also be clairvoyant, many psychics, myself included, work with a whole host of different psychic skills to do their readings and call themselves intuitive, or psychic intuitive, and call their readings intuitive tarot readings. With tarot reading we can look at trends in your life and see where you have been in your past, where it has brought you now, and where that will likely take you in the future. While tarot can reveal these things about you, it doesn’t mean that every detail of your life is laid out for us.
On the same note, it’s important to understand that not every detail of the future is laid out in the cards either. While you might like to know exactly what you should do in your relationship for example, that isn’t something that would necessarily be helpful to your growth as a person. Sometimes we need to make choices that aren’t always the best and learn lessons the hard way in order to really learn our lessons. I firmly believe that in a reading Spirit delivers the messages that we need at the time to make the best decisions. It’s up to us to notice those messages and makes good choices.
Which brings us to next, very important point. Know that absolutely nothing is written in stone and you always have the free will to do what you wish. This is really key because tarot is simply a mirror; it reflects back to us the things that we might not see clearly because we’re so involved in a situation and too close to the matter. It is a suggested path, it gives us ideas. It isn’t our master. It isn’t our fate or destiny maker. When you receive a reading and you find the outcome doesn’t please you, you have the power to use that as guide too, but as a guide to make change. Don’t let it become something that causes you to feel powerless. Instead let it give you power to know that you need to make change and that you have the ability to make that change.
Sometimes a reading may tell you something you aren’t ready to hear. While it certainly isn’t something we like to walk into a session thinking about, it is always a possibility that something in a reading may not be what we really want to hear. This is all part of learning and growing and how the tarot works as a mirror. There are times when we just don’t see what’s happening around us but the tarot will always show us the things that we need to wake up and take notice of. There are times when these might be things that we’ve been working overtime to avoid. We need to hear it for a reason otherwise Spirit wouldn’t take this chance to make sure we take notice. If this happens in a reading, be receptive and open to it. Think about it for a day or two. You may find that with a little time the messages have more meaning and make more sense for you.
If you come to a session closed minded only wanting to hear certain things, you’re bound to be disappointed. Readings, no matter what medium they are done in, are largely an exchange of energy. When you’re closed off the hearing whatever comes through in a reading you’re doing yourself a disservice and a disservice to your reader. Being skeptical is another way that you might find yourself blocking off energy. When you decide to get a reading be sure that you really want to hear answers to your question and be sure that you are feeling confident in getting your reading from the reader you have chosen. It’s natural to be a little skeptical when you’re seeing a new reader for the first time, but if you have confidence in the process you should feel confident about your session.
No reader is 100% accurate 100% of the time. We’re human, we’re never right all the time. Anyone that tells you that they are, or that they guarantee 100% accuracy is trying to lure you in with false promises. Be wary of these kinds of readers; they often charge very high prices for readings and give you nothing more than cold and scripted readings and then ask you for more money over the original reading cost in order to give you more information or give you clearings, healing, or spells to remove negative energy. A reader who “gets a miss” and honestly acknowledges it with you is someone who knows their abilities. Ones who insist you just have “psychic amnesia” when something doesn’t ring true for you is someone to be wary of.
Go with your gut when it comes to picking a reader. Whenever possible, try and have the chance to communicate with and connect with the reader ahead of time, whether through some phone or email communication or, if they are local in a shop or other reading location, meet them and get to know them a little bit. If you don’t feel comfortable with them in the first few minutes of casual chatting you’re not likely to connect with them in a reading situation.
But, even more important than any of this, enjoy yourself! Getting a reading should be fun and insightful. Have a light heart and a joyful outlook on the experience and everything will fall into place.
